VillaseƱor Family Votes For the First Time As New Citizens

Earlier this year, Laura and Elizandro VillaseƱor passed their citizenship exam with the help of Chatham Literacy tutors, Mr. and Ms. Mirkovich. Every Tuesday morning for almost a year, they learned about U.S. government and history. One of the reasons why they wanted to become citizens was for the ability to vote and be a voice for so many in their community who do not have that privilege.

They happily went to their polling location with their daughter and former Program Coordinator, Joselyn Villasenor, to exercise their civic duty. Laura says, ā€œThis was a very special day for me because I was able to vote in a country that I have lived in for more than 20 years! I am very grateful for Mr. Dave and Ms. Karen for helping me reach my goal of becoming a citizen.ā€
