Estela Perez and Tom Droke meet weekly for tutoring at the Chatham Community Library in Pittsboro. Tom is always happy to report that Estela is working very hard to improve not only her reading and writing, but her language skills as well.
Estela quickly earned a laptop computer by increasing her assessment scores by more than one level in less than a year. Although that was gratifying for her, her real goal is to continue to improve her vocabulary and language skills.
“My work is cutting hair, and I live in Pittsboro. I am taking classes in ESL for a year, and I like them a lot and I like having a tutor. I have had group classes before, and this has helped more with my English in my work and in my personal life,” Estela said. “I am very happy because this program of ESL motivates the people to continue studying. The last semester they awarded me a computer for my progress. Even though I lack much knowledge, I hope one day to speak and write English very well.”
Estela continues to make great progress and we couldn’t be more proud of her accomplishments. We know she will continue to amaze all of us at Chatham Literacy. Thank you, Estela, for sharing your story!
