We are hiring: Communication & Marketing Coordinator

Chatham Literacy seeks a talented communications professional (20 hours per week in Siler City, NC) to drive engagement in our mission of helping adults acquire the literacy and educational skills they need to succeed. The ideal candidate will generate awareness of Chatham Literacy and our adult literacy services and increase program accessibility using a variety of mediums, including email, website, social media, video and print.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage a communication and marketing plan.
  • Develop material for website and social media platforms, including videos, photos and copy.
  • Photograph and videotape tutoring sessions, fundraisers, and outreach events.
  • Maintain a marketing library of stories, photographs and videos.
  • Maintain a communication calendar for the organization.
  • Collaborate with staff and committees to brand Chatham Literacy for public relations, and advertising.
  • Guide process to develop communication procedures and policies for various crises.
  • Draft press releases and speeches following organizational news.
  • Communicate with media outlets and journalists and create press kits.
  • Monitor the progress of organization’s communications strategies.

  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary

Training and Experience Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • Prior experience working with/in communication, advertising, journalism, or PR a plus
  • Proficiency with digital tools such as: Google docs, Microsoft word, spreadsheets, publishing/graphics, website design and social media
  • Proficient in WordPress and operation of WordPress
  • Prior experience with editing and publishing
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish is a plus

Service Conditions:

  • Workweek is Monday – Friday from 9 am – 5:30 pm
  • Weekend and evening hours may be required – on occasion for specific events
  • Work will be completed in office

Physical, Emotional, and Intellectual Demands:

  • Interest in working on issues related to adults
  • Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $18.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • Choose your own hours
  • Monday to Friday

  • Siler City, NC 27344: 
  • Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

  • Bachelor’s (Preferred)
