For Jazmin Mendoza-Sosa, joining Chatham Literacy as a staff member is a full-circle moment. Years ago, she first became involved with Chatham Literacy as an ESOL tutor, supporting adult learners in their English-language journey. More recently, she returned to Chatham Literacy from a different perspective—as a student participating in financial education classes. Today, she is excited to return once again, this time as a member of the Chatham Literacy team.
Her email address is jazmin@chathamliteracy.org.
Having grown up in Siler City, Jazmin has deep roots in the community she serves. Throughout her career, she has worked in education, family engagement, language access, and community outreach, building relationships with families, schools, nonprofits, community leaders, and local organizations across Chatham County.
These experiences have shaped how Jazmin sees her role in the community. She believes being a resource is about more than knowing where to send someone. It begins with listening, building trust, understanding people’s experiences, and creating meaningful connections that can help them move toward their goals.
As a bilingual and bicultural relationship builder, Jazmin hopes to be a trusted resource for learners, volunteers, partners, and families. She is especially excited to continue strengthening relationships within the community that raised her while also learning from the people she meets along the way.
Her journey from Chatham Literacy volunteer, to student, to staff member reminds her that learning can happen at every stage of life—and that sometimes the relationships we build along the way bring us back to where we started, ready to serve in a new way.
