Chatham Literacy and Partners Celebrate the Success of the First Annual Day of Service / Volunteer Fair — September 11, 2024

September 11, 2024 marks a significant milestone as Chatham Literacy and its partners hosted the first inaugural Chatham Volunteer Fair. This date was chosen purposefully to honor the spirit of service that emerged from the tragic events of 2001, transforming a day of remembrance into one of community action and resilience.

The fair — held at 79 West Coworking Space & Innovation Hub in Pittsboro — brought together 22 local organizations that allowed prospective volunteers to explore diverse opportunities to make a meaningful impact in their community. We had 67 potential volunteers attend.

The event not only commemorated the lives lost on 9/11 and in its aftermath but also celebrated the enduring values of unity, bravery, and goodwill that have defined the day since. With the support of key partners like Chatham County Aging Services, Chatham Partnership for Children, CORA, and Second Bloom of Chatham, this volunteer fair provided a one-stop shop for community members to connect with causes they’re passionate about.

Attendees had the chance to engage directly with organization representatives, participate in trivia games, and enjoy refreshments, all while discovering how they can contribute to the betterment of Chatham County.
