Joanne has volunteered with Chatham Literacy since 2009, teaching citizenship class, and ESOL. Before retiring in 2014, she practiced, supervised and taught social work in Pittsburgh, PA, New Orleans, LA, and Chatham County NC for 42 years. Joanne has a Masters in Social Work (UNC-CH) and a PhD in Adult Education (NCSU).
In the past, Joanne has volunteered tutoring children, visiting the elderly, poll-greeting during elections, teaching religion to children and adults at her church, and traveling with students on service trips both out of state and here in NC. She has been on the board of her HOA, serving as treasurer and president. She is an active walker and rower at Carolina Masters Rowing). She and her wife (and their three dogs) live in north Chatham. She is the mother of two grown sons who live in Cary, NC and Hawaii.
