Inspiring Through Action: B Demers’ Enduring Legacy at Chatham Literacy

Chatham Literacy’s foundation is built on the dedication of its volunteers. Few have given as much as B Demers. Since 2015, B has been a staunch volunteer, offering her time, skills, and passion in countless ways. As she prepares to move to Wisconsin to be closer to her family, Chatham Literacy wants to take a moment to celebrate her many contributions and express heartfelt gratitude.

B has done it all—tutoring, office work, serving on the program committee, helping with special events, and even sitting on the board for three years. She has been a fixture at Chatham Literacy events, always ready to lend a hand, and her knowledge of the organization’s operations often surpassed even the staff’s. Her presence has been invaluable, and her departure will leave a noticeable gap.

B’s background is as varied as her contributions to Chatham Literacy. Though her career was primarily in healthcare—where she taught CPR and heart health courses—her drive for learning and helping others led her to law school at the age of 50. Her experiences, including living through Hurricane Katrina with a roomful of feral cats while studying law in New Orleans, have shaped her into the resilient and compassionate person she is today.

While Chatham Literacy is sad to see B go, they are incredibly grateful for the years she has spent with them. Her impact on the organization and the people she has helped will not be forgotten. Chatham Literacy thanks B for her kindness, dedication, and unwavering support, and wishes her all the best in this next chapter of her journey.
