Literacy Swings rocked!

Chatham Literacy ended its National Literacy Month celebrations on a high note with Literacy Swings!, an evening of big band music and dancing that raised $3,500 for adult literacy and educational programs in Chatham County.

Thanks to the 80 people who joined us at Pittsboro Roadhouse on September 27th to hear The Ambassadors, a 20-member swing-era band that’s been pleasing area audiences for more than a decade. Special thanks to our silver-level sponsors, Carr Amplifiers and The Ambassadors, and to our bronze-level sponsors, Mountaire Farms, Pittsboro Roadhouse, and The UPS Store at Meadowmont.

By 2018, 63% of all U.S. jobs will require education beyond high school, yet nearly half of the workforce has only a high school education or less and/or low English proficiency, according to the National Coalition for Literacy.  Chatham Literacy is working hard to improve that statistic, and with your help we will!

Fundraisers like Literacy Swings support the services that Chatham Literacy provides – helping adults to become U.S. citizens, earn a GED, obtain a job, learn English as a second (or third or fourth) language, improve their basic education, and prepare to meet expectations in today’s workplace.
