Adult Basic Education
Our Adult Basic Education (ABE) program is designed for adults who cannot read, write, or do math well enough to reach their goals. Some students are hoping that better skills will lead to a job or a promotion. Some are working toward their high school equivalency. Some just want to be able to do everyday tasks they have trouble with now, like helping their children with homework, reading a prescription, or being able to fill out forms. No matter what a student hopes to achieve, we can help.
We offer one-on-one tutoring at convenient locations across Chatham County.
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
ESL classes are for people who moved here from other countries and want to learn how to read, write, understand, and speak English. Students can work one-on-one with a tutor or take classes with a small group.
These classes are for people who want to prepare for the naturalization test to become a U.S. citizen.
General Education Diploma (GED) or High School Equivalency
Our tutors assist high school equivalency teachers by providing individualized instruction to adults in the classroom. Last year, we helped 22 adults earn their diploma.
Our GED tutoring is designed for adults whose goal it is to obtain a GED, high school equivalency (HSE), or high school diploma. Efforts are coordinated with CCCC by providing individualized instruction to their students or by providing one-on-one tutoring to an adult whose schedule does not allow them to enroll at CCCC.
Soft Skills Training
In cooperation with local businesses and the community at large, this program helps employees, under-employed individuals and the unemployed learn the “soft skills” that are expected of them in the workplace, including communication, attitude, teamwork, networking, problem solving and critical thinking, cultural differences, and professionalism. Soft skills training makes the employee more valuable.
