Happy International Women’s Day!

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

87% of the adults we serve with tutoring services are women.

Join us to empower women through literacy! Become a tutor and make a difference, not only in the life of the person you tutor, but also in your own life.

Knowledge is power. Hear me roar.

Chatham Literacy: 10 years of enhancing knowledge…It’s a Wrap for 2010!So, as we wrap up our review of 2010, a word for our sponsors (you! ). The following is the text of a one-minute video produced in 2010 for Chatham Literacy. It remains pertinent today. “Have you ever thought of what it would be like to not read or write well? Try to imagine your life without being able to read the newspaper, follow a recipe, or fill out a ballot. These problems are real for nearly one out of five residents in Chatham County.Chatham County Literacy Council is a non-profit agency whose mission is to help these adults acquire the literacy skills they need to be successful in life. We provide FREE tutoring and materials for our citizens. Our tutors volunteer their time and skills to help their neighbors. The needs in Chatham County are great: 17% of our county’s adults never earned a high school diploma and nearly one-fourth of them live in poverty; 7% never made it through the 9th grade.Would you like to volunteer as a tutor or give support with your time or financial contributions? Do you know someone who could benefit from our tutoring services? Find more on the web at https://chathamliteracy.org/, send us an email at admin@chathamliteracy.org, or call us at 919-742-0578. You’ll be glad you helped because there are people who need you.”Services have expanded since 2010, Chatham Literacy now helps adult learners: • Improve their reading and writing ability• Learn basic math• Study English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)• Prepare to take the test to earn a high school credential• Prepare for the test to become a U.S. citizen• Learn basic computer skills• Learn about the norms and expectations of today’s workplacesGive it a shot! admin@chathamliteracy.org or 919-742-0578
