Nora Esthimer, Ruth Moose, and Karen Pullen to Keynote Chatham Literacy Luncheon

This year, we are excited to have three keynote mystery/suspense speakers: Nora Esthimer, Karen Pullen, and Ruth Moose.
Nora Esthimer has lived in Chatham County since 2000 and grew up on Mount Carmel Church Road. She attended UNC-CH, an English major with honors in creative writing. She had a successful career as a stock broker and financial planner, then retired to pick up her first love, writing.
Nora has written and published three books and edited a collection of short stories. She began Lystra Books, which she calls the smallest publishing company in the world, but still has published more than two dozen books. Nora’s novel, Until Proven: A Mystery in 2 Parts, is set in a fictional NC town. Readers who know Pittsboro and Chatham County will find familiar elements.
Karen Pullen’s mysteries are set in fictional Verwood, a small NC town. Her sleuth, Stella, is an undercover SBI agent who longs to investigate homicides. Encouraged by her artistic sexy grandmother, Stella uses her detective skills in the novels of this series (Five Star Cengage). In Cold Feet, she solves the shocking murder of a young woman on her wedding day. In the sequel, Cold Heart, Stella discovers the body of a young dad.
Karen has an MFA in Popular Fiction from Stonecoast at the University of Southern Maine and teaches in the creative writing program at Central Carolina Community College.
Ruth Moose, Pittsboro, NC, was on the Creative Writing faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill for 15 years. Her first mystery novel, Doing it at the Dixie Dew, was published by St. Martin’s Press, May 2014.
She will talk about how to write a book, let it age for 20 years, then win big. Dixie Dew started on a REAL floppy disk and ended in print. Previously published are collections of short stories and poetry. She has received many awards, including the Chapman Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Chatham Literacy’s Fall for Literacy Luncheon is an important annual fund- and awareness-raising event. Chatham Literacy provides free tutoring to adults in reading, writing, English for Speakers of Other Languages, workforce soft skills, and preparation for Citizenship and a GED.
This luncheon will have an entertaining theme based on the board game CLUE®. We encourage attendees to dress in CLUE® character costumes. A prize will be awarded for the best.
