Individual and group classes

Chatham Literacy offers free one-on-one tutoring and small class instruction at convenient times and places across Chatham County. Here is our current schedule.

Individual tutoring

One-on-one tutoring is available in reading, writing, basic math, and preparation for high school equivalency. Students and tutors choose the times they want to meet. They also choose a location that is convenient for both of them, such as:

  • Pittsboro: Central Carolina Community College
  • Siler City: Central Carolina Community College
  • North Chatham County: Galloway Ridge, Carolina Meadows, Nature Trail
  • Throughout Chatham County: at churches, restaurants, libraries, and other public locations

Adult Basic Education – Group classes

We offer small group classes in reading, writing, basic math, basic computer skills, and preparation for high school equivalency.

  • Central Carolina Community College in Pittsboro
  • Central Carolina Community College in Siler City
  • Carolina Meadows in North Chatham County
  • Galloway Ridge in North Chatham County
  • Nature Trail in North Chatham County
  • Other public locations across the county – such as churches, restaurants and libraries – that are convenient for the student and tutor.

ESL – Group classes

  • Small group English as a Second Language classes are being held at First United Methodist Church , 1101 W. Raleigh St., in Siler City on these days and times:
    • Tuesdays: 10 a.m. to noon
    • Tuesdays: 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
    • Wednesdays: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    • Saturdays: 10 a.m. to noon
  • Small group ESL classes are being held at the Chatham Development Center, 221 S. Chatham Ave., in Siler City on these days and times:
    • Tuesdays: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
    • Tuesdays: 11 a.m. to noon

Citizenship – Group classes

Small classes that prepare students to take the citizenship test are at these times and places:

  • Saturdays: 10 a.m. to noon – First United Methodist Church , 1101 W. Raleigh St., in Siler City
  • Tuesdays: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Jordan Matthews High School, 910 E. Cardinal St., in Siler City
