Swinging in Pittsboro

This event just keeps getting better. We were 90 people strong at this year’s Literacy Swings in Pittsboro on September 18, 2017. Everyone enjoyed the phenomenal music of the Triangle Jazz Orchestra. People danced, swayed, and enjoyed the ambiance.  Thanks to Pam Naugle for beautifully orchestrating this event and to the volunteers who helped. Because of all of you, Literacy Swings was a huge success.

While the band took a break, Yarimeth and her tutor Regina spoke briefly about what Chatham Literacy has meant to both of them. Yarimeth has improved her literacy level by three grades.  Incredible outcomes like this earn students a refurbished laptop, further opening doors and strengthening opportunities. Regina testified she felt she had benefited just as much being Yarimeth’s tutor. For every Chatham Literacy Student, two lives are changed.

Before the concert and during the break, Bruce Gillooly and his dancing partner taught a group of attendees a few basic swing dance steps, a terrific opportunity for those who wanted to join the fun on the dance floor.

The venue with food and bar service was wonderful thanks to the Pittsboro Roadhouse. A special thanks to the sponsors and donors who are listed at the bottom of this page.

Lastly but more importantly, a special thank you to all who attended. Your donations make dreams come true.

Together, we are making a difference!
