McCorkle has published 10 novels and short story collections. Her latest book, Life After Life, was released in 2013. She is a member of the Fellowship of Southern Writers and is a winner of the New England Booksellers Award, the John Dos Passos Prize for Excellence in Literature, and the North Carolina Award for Literature.
She currently teaches graduate courses in creative writing at North Carolina State University and is a core faculty member of the Bennington College Writing Seminars. She also has taught at UNC-Chapel Hill, Tufts, Brandeis, and Harvard universities. She and her husband, photographer Tom Rankin, live in Hillsborough.
